The Kingdom is abounding with many important tourist attractions that attract large number of visitors, first the Grand Mosque in Mecca and the Holy Mosque. But, apart from these two important attractions, which form the tourism wheel, there are plenty of places that make up the cultural and tourism destination, including the diverse Museums of Riyadh where there is a variety of museums, including the Museum of currencies, another for heritage and arts, and another for aircrafts, and others. This is a quick tour of the most important museums in Riyadh.
National Museum of Saudi Arabia
It is one of the most important museums in the city of Riyadh, and it sheds light on the historical ages, and offers a unique combination between past and present in the Kingdom, allowing visitors to discover the Islamic civilization. It consists of several halls including: man and the universe, the Arab kingdoms, Al Jahili age, the Prophetic Mission Hall, and the Hall of Islam and the Arabian Peninsula Hall, the first Saudi State Hall, the second Saudi state Hall, the unification of the Saudi Kingdom Hall, and the Hall of Hajj and the Two Holy Mosques Hall.
The National Museum is located in the eastern side of the King Abdul Aziz Historical Center, Al-Morabaa neighborhood in Riyadh next to the King Abdul Aziz Palace (Al-Morabaa).
Diyar El Ezz Museum
It is the largest museum for old cash currencies, considered as one of the largest currency Museums in the Kingdom, founded by Saeed Ali Al-Ghamdi in Riyadh city Muzahmiah province, this museum houses about 12,000 pieces of various ancient coins, and consists of three exhibition halls.
Musmak Historical Museum
Musmak palace is a fortress of adobe located in the center of Riyadh. Its construction dates back to 1895 AD, the fortress was a scene of the battle of Riyadh Fatah in which Abdul Aziz bin Saud recaptured Riyadh for his family from Al-Saud of Al-Rasheed in 1902 AD. The palace was built in 1312 AH / 1895 AD, it contains paintings, photographs and maps telling the story of the epic recovery of Riyadh, and the story of the unification of the Kingdom by King Abdul Aziz, in addition to the pieces of the weapons used in that era.
Saqr Al-Jazira Museum for Aviation
The latest and largest museum in the UK, it tells the story of the historical development of the Air Force in Saudi Arabia since it was established by King Abdul Aziz until now and it includes a large variety of civil and military aircrafts. It is located on the eastern ring road of the city of Riyadh.
The museum is divided into three halls, containing palm fronds merchandise, leather products and brass instruments.
It is one of Riyadh Museums, founded by Sheikh Salman Hammoud Al-Hadlaa, the museum is located within a large site of 14,400 square meters allocated by its owner to be a great museum featuring many architectural artifacts which represent the Arab, Islamic and international architecture models, such as Najdi architecture (Musmak) and Asir architecture and the Dome of Jerusalem and a very long Obelisk symbolizing the uprising of children of the stones in Palestine, architecture of Yemen, and the eastern architecture such as the Chinese dragon, waterfalls of Indonesia and the domes of the Kremlin building in Russia.
It is one of Riyadh Museums founded by Ibrahim Abdulaziz Abdullah Al-Shaheen, the Museum consists of old building of one floor housing five exhibition halls as these halls contain a huge number of heritage items, these items have been categorized by type including currency, silverware ornaments, watering instruments, agricultural and leather tools, old doors and illumination instruments and scales and measures, clothes, wool, coffee instruments, cooking pots and a range of coffee and tea instruments.
Heritage Museum of Arts and Crafts
It is one of Riyadh Museums founded by Nasser bin Abdulaziz Al-Guzili, the museum is known for the training activity for the students of some fabric and wicker crafts and some Fine Arts. It comprises three halls, each hall houses numerous arts and plastic paintings that embody the popular heritage, moreover there is a lobby designed in a historical design like the stone cave and it has heritage exhibits that embody hospitality and cooking instruments.
